Creativity can contribute to the process of healing especially when it is used as a practice! The creative flow can increase and produce results in growth, change, psychological relief and biological healing, improvement of mood, stress relief, healing from grief and loss and a general sense of well being!
Creativity can be practiced in many ways including a personal art practice, engaging in an art therapy process, movement therapy, music therapy, dance, creative writing, and journaling to name a few!
I like to engage my clients in a form of creativity if they show an interest to allow them the life benefits and tools to help them with maintaining their growth in therapy and a way to get unstuck and back on track if the need arises! Creativity generally promotes pleasantness!
An art practice is one of my very favorite forms of creativity to introduce to clients! Art tells a story! Your story! It is not about creating masterpieces although that can happen! It is about getting feelings out on paper! Processing! Integrating! It is about the soul and the unconscious bringing to light things of which you are totally unaware of to help you on your path to becoming the person you want to be! To recognizing your “best self”! It is about solutions! It is about intuition! It is about recognition and discovery! It is about interpretation as well. Art tells your story! It is one of my particular passions to introduce a client to the power of art in therapy!
